The 1956 stage premiere earned immediate acclaim and has since become one of musical theatre’s definitive classics. This Sydney production, produced by John Frost for Crossroads Live in partnership with Opera Australia, revives the 2016 revival led by Julie Andrews, now under the artistic direction of Karen Johnson Mortimer. The show retains its razor-sharp wit and lush melodies, while new staging and design bring fresh clarity to its themes of identity and transformation.

The Story

Set in early 20th-century London, My Fair Lady follows Eliza Doolittle, a spirited Cockney flower seller who becomes the subject of an experiment by Professor Henry Higgins, a phonetics expert seeking to transform her speech, and perhaps change more than just her accent. As Eliza navigates society’s expectations and Higgins wrestles with his own prejudices, the two forge an unlikely relationship.
