Opera Australia is bringing back the 50s in a big way, with the four-time Tony Award-winning musical Guys and Dolls! This time, audiences won’t be cooped up in a theatre: instead, watch the show with Sydney Harbour twinkling in the distance in the Handa Opera House. You will be thrown into all the New York action, caught up with its wild ensemble dance numbers and witty humor. Storyline

Meet Nathan Detroit. His pockets are empty, but his rap sheet is full. Desperately searching for funds to support his unlawful craps games, he’s busy trying to dodge the cops. Poor Miss Adelaide is in despair, wanting him to quit gambling and finally put a ring on this 14-year engagement!

Things change when he meets high-roller Sky Masterson, who is looking to win big and they make a wager to get any woman to accompany him to Cuba. Their target? Handa Opera

Fleet Steps at Mrs Macquaries Point is a purpose-built open-air stage created each year for Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour. With seating for around 3,000, it transforms Sydney’s waterfront into a world-class theatre, set against the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Known for its dazzling productions like La Traviata and Carmen, the venue blends grand-scale staging with Sydney’s most iconic skyline.

  • By train:

    Circular Quay Station (City Circle, Inner West & Airport lines) is about a 9–17 minute walk away.

  • By bus:

    Buses 304, 311, 343, 396 (and 441) stop within a 5–10 minute walk at Andrew (Boy) Charlton Pool or Cowper Wharf Rd.

  • By ferry:

    Ferries to Circular Quay Wharf 2–4 require a 11–16 minute walk to the venue. Shuttle Bus: A free, wheelchair-accessible shuttle runs between Domain Car Park and the venue pre- and post‑performance.
