Why Watch Dido & Aeneas?

  • Henry Purcell's genre-defining romantic tragedy follows Trojan hero Aeneas as he grapples between the hardest choice one could ever make: love or destiny.
  • The opera features some of the greatest arias, including 'Dido's Lament', and was one of the first attempts ever at composing opera in English.
  • Much like Purcell, director Yaron Lifschitz leans into fusion, blending lush baroque with circus acrobatics to create a unique adaptation of a timeless classic.

    If driving, head to the Opera House Car Park on Macquarie Street. The underground car park is just a 1-minute walk from the entrance, with elevators and accessible drop-off points available for your convenience.

  • By taxi:

    Arriving by taxi or rideshare? Ask your driver to drop you at the designated area on Macquarie Street, right by the Opera House. From here, it's just a 1-minute walk to the main entrance—perfect for a hassle-free arrival.

  • By ferry:

    Arrive by ferry at Circular Quay Wharf and walk just 5 minutes along the scenic waterfront to the Opera House. The path is flat and offers fantastic views of the harbor and city skyline, making your arrival part of the experience.

  • By train:

    Hop off at Circular Quay Station (served by T3, T4, and T8 lines) and enjoy a pleasant 6-minute stroll to the Opera House. Follow the signs along the harbor promenade, taking in beautiful waterfront views as you approach the iconic sails. The route is step-free and suitable for most visitors.

  • By bus:

    Many bus routes serve Circular Quay. Once you arrive, it's a short 6-minute walk along the harbor promenade to the Opera House. The route is well signposted and easy to navigate, with plenty of cafes and sights along the way.

  • By tram:

    Take the L2 light rail to Circular Quay and enjoy a quick 6-minute walk to the Opera House. Simply follow the signs along the waterfront, passing lively cafes and street performers as you go.
